Seventh Generation Giveaway

As a mom, I'm always worrying about my kids' health. My middle child has very sensitive skin and I have to be careful with my laundry detergent. So, I'm always on the lookout for ways to help her and learned something interesting...did you know that the laundry detergent you may be using could contain little-known chemicals called optical brighteners?

According to scientific research, these can cause allergic reactions, are toxic to small fish and other aquatic life, and can pollute your waterways.

When ultraviolet light hits optical brighteners coating your clothing, the brighteners convert UV rays into visible light to create an optical illusion. This tricks the eye into thinking the clothing is whiter and brighter, and therefore cleaner than it really is.

So how can you avoid these optical brighteners? Seventh Generation makes it easy because their laundry detergents are not only free of optical brighteners, but they´re also non-toxic.
In addition, because Seventh Generation liquid laundry detergents are both hypo-allergenic and biodegradable, you can rest easy knowing you made a considerate choice for your family and the environment. When washed in a conventional laundry detergent that contains optical brighteners, clothes appear to glow under a black light. When you use Seventh Generation liquid laundry products, you won´t see the same glow on your clothing.
Take a look at the above photo. Two identical organic cotton shirts were washed: one in a conventional laundry detergent that contains optical brighteners and the other in Seventh Generation laundry detergent which does not use optical brighteners.

I am in totally in love with the Seventh Generation products and my daughter's skin loves them, too! Good news for all of us!

Not much of a tip-- but we grow our own vegetables. Onions are actually really pretty when they flower, so I tuck them in with my ornamental plantings.

We buy organic and as local as we can. I love to visit the same people each week at the farmer's market and know where and how my food is being grown. In addition, we have our own herb and vegetable garden too!

It's been hard to keep my famiy healthy- especially with a husband who has a serious sweet tooth and passes it on to our daughter! But I try to keep us healthy by offering her grapes instead of candy- and the great thing- she's small enough that she always goes for it. :)

Isagenix shakes with fresh spinach blended in. My boys love it and they're getting TONS of nutrition when they drink it. I usually have a shake for breakfast every morning and they share with me.

We stay healthy by remembering to wash our hands or use Purell when we leave a public place. We all take supplements to boost our immune system and eat our fruits and veggies.

I try to keep our family healthy by watching what chemicals I bring into the home. I don't stay completely chemical free, but every little bit helps.

We eat at home a lot, try to avoid fast food when we can, and snack on apples and carrots. I offer my 18 month a cookie every now and then, but he begs for apples! Crazy!
